I build for the child in the proud homeowners arms.
I build to replace the leaky roof, crumbling walls and unsanitary conditions.
I build to learn about the local people - their real history, their customs, their dreams, their plans.
I build to understand myself, others, the world.
I build for the shy wave of the homeowner's son or daughter.
I build so that Americans will be remembered for their personal generosity, not their government's strength, power or wealth.
I build to teach that Americans are just like everyone else.
I build because of the camaraderie of my fellow builders.
I build to visit behind the exotic places where poverty and misery flourish.
I build to see the market on a Saturday or the Jacaranda in bloom.
I build to taste the authentic food.
I build to bring hope of a new home to where despair says that there can be no adequate house.
I build houses, understanding and good will.
